Shiplap Interior Paneling for Walls and Ceilings

As a warm and healthy alternative to drywall, Shiplap by Woodtone™ Interior Paneling is a quality product you can count on.  Re-imagined with superior product features, when installed, the classic visible gap between the boards is created by the product’s unique design, and the classic “shiplap” appearance is achieved.

Manufactured from engineered clear pine, Shiplap by Woodtone™ Interior Paneling is a tongue and groove pattern (not a traditional shiplap pattern) for ease of installation and arrives with a factory coat of white primer, ready to accept the color of paint of your choice.

Big “Thank You” to our customer Dave for sharing these photos of his new sunroom addition that we supplied the building materials for.  The combination of the painted Shiplap and natural Western Red Cedar T&G on the ceiling give this new space lots of character.  We are also rather fond of the Douglas Fir trim and beautiful privacy fence he built using our 1×4” clear Red Balau Mahogany that can be seen out his new beautiful sunroom windows!

Knotty Western Red Cedar Bevel Siding

Budget-friendly and naturally beautiful, bevel siding is the most widely-used Western Red Cedar siding profiles. It is produced by re-sawing lumber at an angle to produce two pieces thicker on one edge than the other.

knotty Western Red Cedar bevel siding is one of the most budget friendly natural wood siding options available

Knotty Western Red Cedar bevel siding has a rustic and warm appeal that is less expensive than clear Bevel siding.  When properly finished and maintained, your knotty Cedar bevel siding will perform admirably for many years.

At Cedar Country, we only supply knotty beveled siding that has sound and tight knots, such as the siding used on the newly remodeled Railroad Pub and Pizza.  Prior to installation, we had the knotty bevel siding for the Railroad Pub and Pizza factory flood coated with high-quality penetrating oil.   This not only saves money and time on the job site, but it also helps to protect your siding before and during installation. Half Moon Bay Project using our custom milled Clear, VG Cedar

This jaw-dropping project in Half Moon Bay, CA, is about one month away from completion. It took 12 years to get the building permit.

Custom milled clear, vertical grain Western Red Cedar specialty building materials we supplied for a project in Half Moon Bay, Ca include exterior cladding and fencing

Custom homes built in Half Moon Bay using our specialty milled Western Red Cedar products

It was our pleasure to travel down to visit this project and meet with our client, Dave O’keefe of O’keefe Construction, based out of San Francisco, after working on this project with him for almost a year.  Each building is unique in its design but similar enough to create a cohesive look on the property.  One unit will be used as a vacation home for Dave and his family, while the other houses a small retail space on the ground floor, with residential living space above that will likely be rented out on Air B&B.

Custom milled Cedar siding on a unique build in the Bay area of California

Due to the unique nature of our business and the relationships we have developed with mills throughout the Pacific Northwest, we were able to match the architect’s spec for the custom milled clear, vertical grain, 1×6” Western Red Cedar “nickel gap” tongue and groove he was looking for to complete the exterior cladding.

The fence around the property was constructed using 5 foot 1×6” clear, vertical grain Western Red Cedar boards.  Not only did sourcing 5’ material save Dave money on the material and shipping, it also helped keep the boards super straight between the powder-coated aluminum posts.  A real win, win!

Half Moon Bay Custom Home

Hot in the building market right now, Clear Western Red Cedar T&G for both interiors and exteriors!  Check out this stunning unique, contemporary home being built in California’s bay area.  We worked closely with the builder to ensure the siding specs were an exact match to the architect’s design.

After we milled the 1×6 clear, vertical grain Western Red Cedar Fine Line Tongue and Groove to the specified pattern, we had a factory flood coat of Penofin Red Label “Cedar” penetrating oil applied to the T&G siding.  Coated on all four sides and dried in a temperature-controlled environment, the quality of finish that is achieved by this process just can’t be duplicated on the job site.  No waiting for perfect weather!

Custom Milled Clear, Vertical Grain Alaska Yellow Cedar

Prized for both interior and exterior use due to its pale yellow color, workability, and longevity, Alaska Yellow Cedar was the chosen wood for this unique, modern home on Fidalgo Island in Washington state.

custom milled 1x6 Clear Vertical Grain Yellow Cedar Cladding

Designed by local architect Brooks Middleton, whom we have had the pleasure to work with on several local projects, designed this project to have it built using clear, vertical grain Yellow Cedar for accent walls inside the home and for some of the exterior cladding.  Since what he was looking for was not an “off the shelf” product, we worked with our mill to manufacture the custom spec’d 6″ clear vertical grain (also referred to as VG) Yellow Cedar for the exterior siding, as well as the 8″ clear VG Yellow Cedar for the interior of the home.

Clear, vertical grain is the highest grade of Cedar, and as you might guess, the most expensive.   The wood is sawn specifically so that all the growth rings are parallel to each other on the face of the board.  All pieces milled will have a smooth face of decay-resistant heartwood and will be free from most growth characteristics that affect appearance. Please note that even in all the clear grades, including VG, some knots may be present, as well as other less-than-perfect characteristics.  Every tree, as well as every piece of lumber, will have natural individual characteristics, including variance in color.

Clear Alaska Yellow Cedar custom milled for Interior Use

When installing any natural wood product, regardless of grade, the trick is to install the best pieces in the areas with the highest visibility and always allow for some waste, especially in lower grades of clear and knotty Cedar products.

Custom Cut Western Red Cedar for Outdoor Cross

Western Red Cedar is an ideal wood choice for outdoor structures due to its natural resistance to rot and decay, and workability.  Grown natively in the Pacific Northwest, where Cedar Country Lumber is located, we can source top-quality Cedar timbers and beams in nearly any size and length, including beams over 20′ long, and ship them directly to consumers anywhere in the US.

Likely one of the most photographed projects we have had the pleasure of participating in, we provided the full dimension, 8×12″ Western Red Cedar timbers for this cross several years ago.  Located in Centerport, NY, on the north shore of Long Island, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs R.C. Church was kind enough to send us these photos, along with a note from Father John.

Tom,

Great stories with the cross – the man who put it together, a master carpenter, builds high-end houses and said it was the most meaningful thing he has ever done!! So many working on it – hope the pictures capture the meaning.”  Father John

Ribbon Coursing of Cedar Sidewall Shingles

The natural beauty, longevity, and durability of Western Red Cedar have made it a popular choice for exterior siding since man began building structures.  It is light, easy to work with, and comes in a variety of patterns and textures that allow designers, architects, builders, and homeowners to customize an exterior that is perfect for their particular project.

Because of the many grades and sizes and ways that they can be installed to create a custom look, Cedar Shingles are an especially popular siding choice.  In this photo, the pre-primed #1 R&R (re-edged and re-jointed) Western Red Cedar Shingles we provided for this historical restoration were installed using a method called “Ribbon Coursing”.

Pre primed ribbon coursed Western Red Cedar Shingles

When applying ribbon coursing, the double shadow line is created by raising the outer course of cedar shingles approximately 1″ above the under coursing.  It is recommended that only #1 shingles be used in this application.

Ribbon Coursing installation guidelines for Western Red Cedar Shingles

Butt nail all double coursed cedar shingles that are installed with more than their maximum single course recommended exposure.  For our 18″ #1 Western Red Cedar shingles, 7″ is the maximum recommended exposure for a single course.  When installing any Western Red Cedar building materials, be sure to use corrosion-resistant fasteners.
