Kayu ® International, founded in 1994, is a leader in importing the finest exotic hardwoods with affordable prices. We are pleased to be their partner in supplying homeowners and contractors with their Red Batu “Mahogany” hardwood decking and lumber.
Red Batu and Ipe, also known as Brazilian Walnut (and marketed under several brand names, including Ironwood), are two of the highest density hardwoods available on the market today. Both hardwoods are priced higher than Western Red Cedar or Alaskan Yellow Cedar, but because they last so much longer, they are considered one of the lowest-priced wood decking options due to their extremely long life span.
While Ipe is the most well-known of the hardwood decking products on the market, it is also the most expensive. Uniquely beautiful and a proven performer for decades, our Red Batu “Mahogany” is priced approximately 30-50% less than Ipe. Additionally, because of the current high demand for Ipe, various grades and productions from all over South America can be intermingled causing inconsistencies from board to board.
Our Kayu Red Batu is only 100% clear grade, 100% kiln-dried, and is double inspected by KAYU exclusive graders to ensure it remains highly consistent. And because it is always sourced from the same region, our Kayu Red Batu has a Class “A” Flame Spread Rating, which is the same as concrete and steel. Due to Ipe’s inconsistency in density, it does not always warrant the highest class rating.
We are confident that you will find Kayu Red Batu Mahogany is one of the finest exotic hardwoods on the market at a great price, backed with a 25-year limited warranty. Now, that’s something to feel good about!
