Extremely strong and durable hardwood decking that is easy to maintain!
Western Hemlock is a premium choice for appearance-grade products when a lighter interior design scheme is desired. Grown along the coast of Oregon and Washington, as well as the Northern Rockies, this smooth and fine-grained wood produces boards with straight edges. Due to its lack of pitch and neutral color, it paints exceptionally well and can be used to match existing millwork.
Historically, native people of the Pacific coast prized cedar for its long-lasting qualities and used the wood and bark from cedar trees for most of their building needs. Evidence of cedar’s durability are the many cedar artifacts still in good condition today. Learn more about the natural properties of Western Red Cedar and how it naturally enhances today's building projects all over the world on our blog. Link is in the bio!
In North America, shingles and shakes are typically made from California Redwood, Western Red Cedar, or Alaska Yellow Cedar, while in Scandinavia and Central Europe, they are more commonly made from Pine. Shingles are made from blocks that have been edge cut using a circular saw, whereas shakes are split. Shingles can be used on roofs, as well as sidewalls. Learn more about the grades of Cedar Shingles, as well as the various shingle products we offer on our blog. Link is in the bio!
Approved for both interior and exterior applications, engineered Western Red Cedar tongue and groove paneling is clearer and stronger than what nature can provide. Hand-selected for the best appearance, thin pieces of clear, vertical grain Western Red Cedar are applied to quality knotty Western Red Cedar using the same techniques and glue used to make other engineered building materials rated for exterior use.
Western Red Cedar is a solid choice for interior and exterior applications where strength, appearance, and serviceability are of utmost importance. With its straight grain and uniform texture, Western Red Cedar has natural properties that provide greater resistance to insect attack, as well as rot and decay, than many other kinds of wood. With practically every size and dimension available, our Western Red Cedar Timbers and Beams are normally supplied “green”. And while most timbers are rough cut and fully dimensional, you also have the option of having them surfaced on all four sides to produce a smooth, uniform appearance or cut to almost any desired dimension.
Proud to be able to share this amazing restoration of a 200-year-old farmhouse in upstate New York we supplied the Alaska Yellow Cedar tapersawn shakes for. With @unikorn_construction 's fine craftsmanship, this stunning home's restoration is nearing completion.
Clear, Vertical Grain is the highest grade of Western Red Cedar and is commonly just referred to as “VG”. Vertical grain means that the growth rings are parallel to each other on the face of the board, and the wood is sawn specifically to achieve that look. Pieces have a smooth face of decay-resistant heartwood and are free from growth characteristics that affect appearance. Pieces have excellent dimensional stability and the ability to hold finishes very well. Generally used in siding and paneling products, but also found in trim and other dimensional boards; this product is generally supplied Kiln Dried and is ready to accept paint or stain either before installation or after.
